Cultural Connections

After your initial Home Visit Training, you may want to deepen your group’s practice with a targeted session on Cultural Connection.

Time: 2 hours

Readiness prerequisites: Previous Home Visit Training

Objective:  Participants will

  • gain additional skills and confidence in building relationships with families from many diverse backgrounds via home visits
  • have a deeper understanding of how to bring a family’s home culture back to the classroom and impact learning

Audience: Educators doing home visits, or anyone interested in how home visits can be used to build cultural competence and connection.

Led by: a diverse team of teachers and parents with a wealth of experience with home visits in multi-cultural settings

Content:  Insights for educators regarding a child’s own individual family culture, and practical knowledge of how to connect what is learned on a home visit to the classroom and curriculum. Also includes perspectives on how the home visit provides framework for identifying unconscious assumptions and building relationships across differences such as language, nationality, ethnicity, race, and class.

Cost: $3,000. Includes trainer time and materials. Travel and lodging expenses are billed separately.
